"Schäf" Spätlese 2024 is a classic Mosel Spätlese in the best sense of the word: low in alcohol, but rich in tension and detail. The nose offers fresh citrus, ripe pear and white peach, complemented by floral notes and a clear, stony slate impression. On the palate, the wine combines juiciness and refined sweetness with lively acidity, keeping the whole taut and energetic. The finish is long, clean and mineral, with a slightly saline accent.

Vinification.
The estate does not specify exact vinification details or maturation period for this cuvée. Weingut Melsheimer works with spontaneous fermentation and traditionally ages its Rieslings in large oak Fuder barrels (approx. 1,000 litres).

The estate.
Weingut Melsheimer (Reil) is a leading family business on the Mosel, led by Thorsten Melsheimer, known for an uncompromising, natural approach and extreme patience in the cellar. The estate works organically and biodynamically (Demeter) with a strong focus on soil life, biodiversity and manual work on the steep slopes. In the cellar, everything revolves around spontaneous fermentation, long maturation and as few corrections as possible, so that the slate signature and the energy of Riesling remain maximally intact.
