The 2024 Marienburg Kabinett from Clemens Busch is a prime example of Mosel finesse: filigree, energetic, and with a hovering balance between ripe fruit, fresh acidity, and salty slate tension.
The grapes come from the steep Marienburg vineyard, where the slate soils retain warmth while imparting that typical, smoky-mineral precision. The nose reveals notes of lime, white peach, and green apple, with floral accents and a distinct slate touch.
The palate combines juiciness with tension: a playful, delicately sweet accent is held taut by vibrant acidity and a stony, almost saline core. The finish is light, clean, and remarkably long for its alcohol level.
Winemaking.
The grapes are hand-harvested on the steep slopes and gently pressed. Fermentation occurs with natural yeasts, aiming for maximum terroir expression and a classic Kabinett balance. The wine then matures in a combination of large old Fuder casks and stainless steel.
The estate.
Weingut Clemens Busch in Pünderich is one of the benchmark producers of the Mittelmosel and also a pioneer of sustainable viticulture in the region. Clemens Busch began pursuing a radically different approach in the vineyard in the mid-1970s: he stopped using herbicides early on, transitioned to organic cultivation, and later evolved to biodynamic principles. Today, work focuses strongly on living soils, biodiversity, and maximum resilience of the vines, with certification according to organic and biodynamic guidelines.
Their core holdings are in the spectacular Marienburg vineyard: extreme slopes, terracing, and different types of slate (red, blue, and gray) each imparting their own signature. Through extensive manual labor, late harvesting where necessary, and minimal intervention in the cellar, the wines have built a reputation for precision, texture, and pronounced sense of place — in both dry and classic "fruity-style" Mosel.
