The Marienburg Fahrlay GG 2022 is a pronounced terroir wine from the blue slate section of the Marienburg: cool, stony and precise, with an underlying power that is particularly evident in its length.
Aromatically, it opens with citrus zest, white flowers and spicy notes (ginger, bergamot), followed by that typical wet-stone/mineral impression that gives the wine a "honed" character. On the palate, it is tightly structured, with a subtly creamy texture around a core of citrus and white stone fruit, and a long-lasting finish.
Vinification.
Manual harvest on the steep slopes, followed by gentle pressing. Alcoholic fermentation occurs spontaneously in traditional oak barrels (large, old Fuder/foeders), allowing for slow and prolonged fermentation. The wine then continues to age on its fine lees in the same barrels to build texture and complexity, with minimal intervention and a focus on precision.
The domain.
Weingut Clemens Busch in Pünderich is one of the benchmarks of the Mittelmosel and at the same time one of the pioneers of sustainable viticulture in the region. Clemens Busch began pursuing a radically different course in the vineyard as early as the mid-1970s: he stopped using herbicides early, switched to organic farming, and later evolved to biodynamic principles. Today, work is done with a strong focus on living soils, biodiversity, and maximum resilience of the vines, with certification according to organic and biodynamic guidelines.
Their core holdings are in the spectacular Marienburg vineyard: extreme slopes, terraced work, and different types of slate (red, blue, and gray) that each give a unique signature. Through extensive manual work, late harvest where necessary, and minimal intervention in the cellar, the wines build a reputation for precision, texture, and pronounced terroir – both in dry and classic "fruity-style" Mosel.
