Krug Rosé 28ème Édition is a distinctly gastronomic rosé Champagne that perfectly balances finesse and power. On the nose, notes of red currant, ripe cherry, and raspberry, complemented by rose petals, orange peel, soft spices, and a subtle smoky-mineral touch. On the palate, the wine is broad and layered, with a very fine mousse, a creamy yet firm core, and a striking salty-chalky grip. The finish is long, mineral, and complex, with persistent citrus zest, spices, and red fruit that slowly dissipates.
Vinification.
This 28ème Édition is built around the 2016 harvest and consists of 32 wines from 6 different years (youngest 2016, oldest 2010), with approximately 38% reserve wines from the house's library. The rosé color and structure partly come from 10% Pinot Noir, which was made as a red wine using traditional skin maceration. The base wines are vinified plot by plot, with a portion aged in small oak barrels to add texture and depth. After the second fermentation in the bottle, a very long aging on the lees (around 7 years) precedes disgorgement, allowing complexity, integration, and the typical “vinous” Krug texture to fully develop.
The Estate.
Maison Krug (founded in 1843) belongs to the absolute top echelon of Champagne and is known for a unique, uncompromising approach: maximum selection, an enormous library of reserve wines, and a style that is always "vinous" and gastronomic, with more emphasis on structure and complexity than on pure fruit. The house style is built on precision and patience: slow maturation, minimal concessions, and a constant focus on harmony and length.
Since 2024, their own vineyards (approximately 20% of production) have been organically certified, and they support their partners in achieving this certification by 2030.
