Pinot Nero Riserva Monticol 2021 from Cantina Terlan is an elegant and characterful red wine that beautifully combines alpine finesse with depth and structure. The nose reveals wild strawberry, raspberry, and cherry, complemented by refined spiciness and a subtle stony note. On the palate, the wine is well-balanced, with juicy red fruit, fresh acidity, and a clear mineral tension that provides precision and length. The texture is supple but not light, with sufficient grip and layering to also perform strongly gastronomically. The finish is long, clean, and energetic.

Vinification.
The grapes come from high-altitude vineyards, where cool nights and fresh mountain influences ensure slow and balanced ripening. After manual harvesting and careful selection, the grapes are destemmed, followed by a slow, temperature-controlled fermentation in stainless steel. The wine then undergoes malolactic fermentation and ages for approximately 12 months, partly in large wooden barrels and partly in barriques. This aging provides extra texture and depth, without losing the refined fruit and mineral tension. The result is a Pinot Nero with elegance, freshness, and subtle complexity.

The winery.
Cantina Terlan is one of the great references of Alto Adige and is known for wines that emphasize precision, freshness, and terroir expression. The cooperative was founded in 1893 and over the years built a strong reputation with both white and red wines from high-altitude plots in South Tyrol. The house style is pure, precise, and terroir-driven, with great attention to tension, balance, and aging potential.

In terms of sustainability, the focus is strongly on adapted vineyard management based on altitude, exposure, and climate. Much attention is paid to healthy grapes, balanced ripening, and maintaining freshness and natural tension in the wine. The combination of altitude, cooling influences, and precise plot monitoring plays an important role in this. In the cellar, Cantina Terlan also opts for a well-thought-out and precise approach, so that the character of the grape and origin is preserved as clearly as possible.
