Vigna del Sorbo 2020 is an impressive and monumental expression of Sangiovese, originating from a high-altitude, amphitheatre-shaped vineyard in Panzano. The nose reveals aromas of ripe cherry, blackcurrant, and violets, intertwined with herbs, tobacco, cedar, and a distinct mineral undertone. On the palate, the wine is powerful and layered, with a deep fruit core, vibrant acidity, and fine-grained yet firm tannins. The finish is exceptionally long and complex, supported by a perfect balance of ripeness, freshness, and structure.

Vinification.
The grapes are hand-picked and rigorously selected. Fermentation occurs spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, followed by a long maceration for maximum extraction of structure and aromatic depth. The wine then ages for approximately 24 months in large Slavonian oak barrels and partly in used barriques, after which it undergoes further bottle ageing before release. This classic upbringing enhances complexity without masking the terroir.

The Estate.
Fontodi belongs to the absolute top of Chianti Classico and is fully organic certified. The estate is located in the heart of Panzano's Conca d'Oro, one of the best terroirs for Sangiovese. Sustainability and respect for the ecosystem are central: biodiversity, natural ground cover, and minimal intervention in the cellar are at the core of their philosophy. Vigna del Sorbo is Fontodi's historic flagship and is considered one of Tuscany's most prestigious and long-lived wines.
