Domaine Marc Roy Gevrey-Chambertin "La Justice" 2023 is an elegant and precise red Burgundy that beautifully combines finesse and depth. On the nose, black cherry, raspberry, and violets emerge, complemented by fine spices, a subtle earthy touch, and a slightly stony, mineral undertone. On the palate, the wine is linear and velvety, with ripe yet pure fruit, elegant tannins, and a lovely tension that provides length and refinement. The finish is long, clear, and mineral, with a style that focuses on precision and transparency rather than power.

Vinification.
La Justice comes from a small parcel in Gevrey-Chambertin with stony, clay-rich soils and old vines, which gives the wine extra concentration and depth. Vinification is done with great attention to purity and detail. The grapes are fully destemmed, ferment with indigenous yeasts, and then age in oak barrels, with a proportion of new wood that adds structure and layering without overpowering the fruit. The result is a Pinot Noir with suppleness, precision, and a distinct chalky tension.

The domaine.
Domaine Marc Roy is a small but exceptionally highly regarded domaine in Gevrey-Chambertin, today led by Alexandrine Roy, the fourth generation of the family. The domaine is known for wines that prioritize finesse, transparency, and terroir expression, rather than pure power or extraction. The style is exact, refined, and very pure, with great attention to detail in both vineyard and cellar.

In terms of sustainability, the domaine employs a distinctly careful and hands-on approach in the vineyard. The soils are plowed rather than chemically cleaned, with the aim of promoting more active soil life, deeper root systems, and a clearer expression of the calcareous subsoil. There is a strong focus on manual labor, low yields, and meticulous monitoring of each parcel, with as few unnecessary interventions as possible. In the cellar, too, the methods remain restrained and precise, allowing the wine's character to emerge clear and unadulterated.
