Domaine Chandon de Briailles Corton “Bressandes” 2022 is a grand cru with impressive depth, but at the same time with the precision and transparency so typical of the domain. On the nose, cherries, blackberry, plum and violets emerge, complemented by spicy accents, a subtle earthy note and a clear stony undertone. On the palate, the wine is powerful and concentrated, but never heavy. The ripe fruit is supported by fresh acidity, fine but present tannins and a pronounced mineral structure that provides length and tension. The finish is long, layered and intense, with a beautiful combination of volume, energy and terroir expression. This is a Corton with gravitas and cellaring potential, but also with remarkable finesse for its appellation.
Vinification.
This cuvée comes from four plots in the Bressandes climat, together accounting for over 1.45 hectares, spread across the Corton slope. The soils combine iron-rich clay with limestone, which simultaneously provides depth, structure and mineral tension. The vinification takes place in wooden tronconic vats, without pumps and without the addition of sulphites during fermentation. Whole clusters are used, except in years when hail or frost makes this less suitable. This is followed by ageing for approximately 15 to 18 months in 228-liter oak barrels, the majority of which are used barrels and only a limited portion new wood. This approach gives the wine extra layering and structure, without overpowering the purity of the fruit or the character of the terroir.
The domain.
Domaine Chandon de Briailles is a historic estate in Savigny-lès-Beaune and is one of the established names of the Côte de Beaune. It owns vineyards in Savigny-lès-Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses, Aloxe-Corton and Corton, among others, and is known for a style that is pure, transparent and distinctly terroir-driven. The wines typically combine finesse, energy and cellaring potential, with a clear focus on the identity of each plot.
In terms of sustainability, the domain has been working organically and biodynamically for years, with great attention to living soils, biodiversity and the natural balance in the vineyard. In Bressandes, the vineyard work is even done with Comtoise draft horses, to limit soil compaction and respect soil life as much as possible. The biodynamic treatments are carried out very specifically and carefully, with a clear preference for gentle and thoughtful interventions. This philosophy is consistently extended to the cellar, with a sober and precise approach where as little intervention as possible is made to preserve the character of the grape, vintage and terroir to the maximum. This consistent vision translates into wines with great clarity, a lot of energy and a very direct link to their origin.
