Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru “Les Beaux Monts” 2023 is the most emblematic cuvée of the domain: a wine that effortlessly combines finesse and depth. The nose reveals fresh red fruits (cherry, raspberry) and dark berries (blueberry), with floral notes, fine spices, and a subtle earthy undertone. On the palate, the wine is rich and complete, with a generous texture, delicate but present tannins, and a long, layered finish where fruit, spice, and Vosne elegance come together. With a few years of bottle aging, this profile evolves towards more pronounced mature notes and spicy complexity.
Vinification.
The grapes are harvested by hand and selected in the vineyard. A cold pre-fermentation maceration is used, followed by fermentation with indigenous yeasts and limited extraction to preserve finesse. The wine is aged for 18 months, with 50% new French oak barrels.
The domain.
One to watch. A name that is starting to enter the ranks of “established” values. Domaine Benoît Chevallier is located in Vosne-Romanée and is led by Benoît Chevallier, who works on a small scale with a strong focus on terroir and precision. The domain operates according to organic principles, with much manual work in the vineyard and attention to soil health and biodiversity. In the cellar, the approach is deliberately minimal and focused on purity: natural yeasts, controlled extraction, and aging that prioritizes the fruit and its origin. As a result, even the regional cuvées deliver a remarkably refined, “Côte de Nuits”-like signature.
